5 Signs of Stress and Anxiety in Kids in Orlando
This year has drastically increased stress and anxiety, but not just for adults. Kids are experiencing more anxiety disorders than ever before. 2020 has brought so many uncertainties and changes, and kids are expressing those anxieties in different ways. Here are five signs that your child may be experiencing increased stress:
- Difficulty Concentrating
- Difficulty Sleeping (including bad dreams, sleep walking, and bed wetting)
- Increased Fidgeting
- Seems More Irritable
- Not Eating Properly
How can chiropractic care and network spinal in Orlando FL help?
When we look at the autonomic nervous system, it breaks down into two parts:
- The sympathetic nervous system: this is the system that puts us in a fight or flight mode when under stress. If you’re walking through the woods and see a bear, your body will instantly prepare for that stressor. It will make your heart beat faster to get more blood flow to certain body parts, and will alter hormones to allow you to have more strength to get away or attempt to fight the bear. This system is important, but designed to be a temporary state.
- The parasympathetic nervous system: this system is the complete opposite of the sympathetic nervous system. This is the system allows the body to rest, digest, and heal properly.
Both of these systems are incredibly important for survival, but a lot of people are affected by many chronic stressors that keep them in a constant sympathetic, stressful state (1). Any interference or trauma to the nervous system will greatly affect the body’s ability to manage stress. The body can’t properly heal while in this state. At IWC, we structure our chiropractic care and network spinal care to address the parasympathetic nervous system to help keep the body in a pattern of healing. By helping a child achieve this new pattern and find a healthier parasympathetic/sympathetic balance, symptoms of stress and anxiety can greatly decrease or diminish completely.
