How is reflux related to the nervous system?

There are several reasons why a baby could be experiencing reflux, but very commonly reflux is caused or worsened when there is a vertebral misalignment causing nervous system interference. The labor process, even when a natural, vaginal birth can cause stress and irritation to the spinal cord and nerves. Very often, there is twisting and pulling during labor or c-section, and in more severe situations, forceps or vacuum assistance may be used. When there is stress added to the nervous system, the body goes into a fight-or-flight (sympathetic) state. A few symptoms that may suggest a baby is in this state include:

• Reflux
• Colic
• Constipation
