Chiropractic care and Network Spinal For Torticollis
What is torticollis in Orlando???? Torticollis is a condition where a child's head is tilted to one side while the chin is tilted in the opposite direction, making it appear "twisted."
There are 2 types of torticollis in Orlando
- Congenital: present from birth, and most often caused by spinal misalignment/dysfunction in the upper neck. Often caused because of baby's position in utero or due to birth trauma. The SCM (sternocleidomastoid) muscle becomes contracted due to this misalignment, causing the tilted appearance
- Aquired: developed during childhood. Due to falls/accidents, poor posture, sleep, sports, etc.
Whether torticollis is congenital or acquired, it is leading to nervous system interference! Consistent interference causes the nervous system to be in a fight-or-flight (sympathetic) state. This state can lead to symptoms like difficulty sleeping, digestive/gut issues, and behavioral changes.
Signs to look for:
- Holding head to one side
- Limited neck movement
- Uneven hair loss pattern on back of skull
- Prefers to breastfeed on one side
- Frequent crying and/or signs of discomfort
- Verbalizing neck pain, stiffness, and headaches
How can chiropractic and network spinal help?
We safely can identify areas of nervous system interference by using the CLA INSiGHT Scanner, which uses advanced thermography and electromyography technology. This technology provides invaluable information on how spinal stress can trigger deeper health issues.
As chiropractors, we are trained to use gentle and safe techniques to help remove nervous system interference. If a child has torticollis, removing this interference will help calm the SCM muscle, greatly assisting the physical and neurological symptoms.
